Before (but taken after weeds removed and dead annuals were dug up)
Garden Design Maine helped a longtime customer refresh their parents' gravesite garden, which previously featured annuals that did not survive hot summer temperatures and lacked regular water.Â
Looking around the cemetery, our team noticed that most of the gravesites were sitting in full sun all day. We also noticed that many contained short-lived annuals such as red geraniums.
Garden Design Maine inquired with the customer as to their mother's favorite colors: purple, and more specifically - lavender. So we thought "What likes hot, dry conditions better than lavender?!!"
A garden design featuring short-statured perennials that love dry, hot conditions --- including lavender --- was created and planted, followed by a fresh layer of mulch.
The results were beautiful, and featured long-blooming lavender, catmint, and a variety of coneflower that only reaches ~ 15" tall. The customer was delighted!
Garden Design Maine has continued to help water and maintain this gravesite garden, which has gotten prettier each week since it was planted and stands out as one of the nicest in the cemetery.
